The National Payments Council reviews countries’ experiences in electronic payment systems


Today, Saturday, the Central Bank Governor, Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, presided over the inaugural meeting of the Iraqi National Payments Council, during which the experiences of other nations in this sector were examined.

A press release from the Central Bank that was obtained by the “Al-Ma’louma” news agency said, “The Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq, chaired the first meeting of the Iraqi National Payments Council after its restructuring, and it took place during the meeting, which was attended by officials from the Central Bank and representatives of the relevant ministries, the government and private banking sectors, and payment service providers.” Electronic and other actors, assessing the Council’s aims and the primary tasks that it wants to perform in order to accomplish national development strategies.

He also noted that “the Council discussed the experiences of other countries in the field of payment systems and the mechanisms necessary to implement Iraqi Council of Ministers decisions No. 23044 and 23620 for the year 2023, as well as proposals that would contribute to the implementation of these decisions with the aim of expanding the scope of work of Iraqi electronic payment systems and linking them with various institutions.” The Council also encouraged
