Muhammad Al-Saadi, the legal expert in charge of the complaint against the governments of Baghdad and Erbil over money transfers, stated on Monday that the Federal Supreme Court is expected to issue a state order prohibiting money transfers from Baghdad to Erbil.

In a statement to Al-Maalouma, Al-Saadi stated, “This morning witnessed the filing of a lawsuit against the governments of Baghdad and Erbil regarding the unconstitutionality of sending budget funds to Kurdistan.”

“The Federal Court has taken up the case,” he said, “and the state decision will be issued within 24 hours from the date of filing the case, according to the law.”
“The filing of the lawsuit came to block the way for Baghdad to send money to Erbil, provided that the lawsuit is considered in a fundamental manner after Baghdad’s response and defense before the Federal Supreme Court,” he said, adding that “all government steps regarding sending money are in clear violation of the constitution, which confirms the inevitability of making a decision in favor of Baghdad.”
The Council of Ministers agreed to grant the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government two trillion and one hundred billion dinars for the current fiscal year.
